Who We Are

            The Southern Cross Abbey is  a modern Benedictine community of the Grey Robed Monks of St. Benedict.  We  strive to imitate Christ and to follow the Rule of Benedict through prayer, work and community outreach.  Our mother abbey, Luz de Cristo Abbey, is in Phoenix, AZ.  The Arizona community, established in 2003, is ecumenical and currently has 20 members made up of a diversity of religious traditions including Orthodox, Independent Catholics, Lutherans, and Methodists.  Southern Cross Abbey was begun in 2006.  We welcome people of all denominations.  At present, most of our members attend Episcopal churches and do extensive parish work and ministry there.
